Vorece Doris Chandler

Sep 13, 1933 — Aug 18, 2026

Vorece Doris Chandler, born Vorece Doris Brown, was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on September 13, 1933, into the loving Fowler family. She received her formal education through the Little Rock Independent School District. Upon graduation, she moved to Dallas, Texas, to join her mother, Lodie Brooks, and her stepfather, Robert Brooks.

After settling in Dallas, Vorece married her beloved husband, Leon Chandler. To this union was born their only child, Leon Chandler, Jr.

Vorece devoted 37 years of her life to serving others through her work as a retail manager and supervisor at Goodwill and its senior center. After her retirement in 1983, she continued to dedicate herself to her community, caring for her family and lovingly helping children and elderly neighbors throughout her community.

In 1967, Vorece accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined City Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she remained steadfast in her walk with the Lord throughout the years. She faithfully served in various capacities within the church, including as a Sabbath School secretary, a member of the finance committee, a choir member, and a devoted deaconess.

In her later years, Vorece became a resident of Dickinson Place, where she continued to find joy in serving others and building meaningful relationships. She actively participated in senior activities, including knitting blankets and scarves for the Austin Street Shelter, taking part in holiday and seasonal celebrations, and accompanying fellow residents on their weekly store trips. Her warm smile, welcoming spirit, and genuine love for everyone she encountered earned her the special honor of being named an ambassador of Dickinson Place. True to who she was, Vorece never met a stranger.

Vorece went home to be with the Lord on August 18, 2026, while receiving loving care from the hospice staff at Pleasant Valley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, service, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lodie Brooks; her stepfather, Robert Brooks; her grandparents, Leonard and Lula Fowler; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom she shared close and cherished relationships.

Vorece leaves to cherish her memory her son, Leon Chandler, Jr.; her beloved granddaughters, Cherie Chandler and Kristina Chandler; and a host of extended family members, friends, church family, neighbors, and loved ones.
