Thomas Berry Childs, Jr, was born April 11, 1951, in Dayton Ohio. He entered eternal rest on August 28, 2025. A beloved son of the late Thomas B. Childs, Sr. and Vivian Dunbar Childs, he lived a life filled with love, service, and devotion.
He was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for 50 years, initiated into the Eta Gamma Chapter at his undergraduate alma mater Central State University. CSU is where he was coined with the nick name “Baby Boy”. His brotherhood and dedication to the fraternity reflected his lifelong commitment to excellence, service, and fellowship.
A career educator of 30 years, Tommy as he was called, touched countless lives through his passion for learning and his unwavering belief in the potential of every student. Beyond his profession, his greatest joy was being a lover of his family—cherishing time spent with loved ones, creating memories, and offering guidance and strength. He loved being the life of the party and he never met a stranger.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Beverly; his devoted sons, Khary (Jessica) Childs and Jimika (Telecia) Childs; grandchildren, Khalid, Kaya, Kamryn, Elijah, Khaliah, Kiana; and his great-granddaughter, Zoe. He also leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Fredrick Childs, and sister, Lisa Childs Love, both of Dayton, Ohio; along with a host of relatives and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
He will be remembered as a man of integrity, warmth, and devotion whose legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
