Dallas

Calvin Lewis Tubbs, affectionately known as "Cool" or "Cool Calvin," departed this life on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the age of 76.

Calvin was born on March 10, 1950, in Dallas, Texas. He was the fourth of twelve children and was raised in the West Dallas community. He was the beloved son of the late Arlee and Gladys Tubbs.

At an early age, Calvin accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Canada Drive Christian Church. Throughout his life, he continued his faith journey and attended New Mount Corinth Baptist Church.

Calvin received his education through the Dallas Independent School District, attending C.F. Carr Elementary School, Sequoyah Junior High School, and Dr. L.G. Pinkston Sr. High School. He later earned his GED, demonstrating his commitment to personal growth and perseverance.

A dedicated worker, Calvin was employed by Stemmons Mattress Company and Strike Masters Golf Supply. He took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

Calvin was a gifted handyman and shade-tree mechanic who could fix just about anything. Whether working on cars, repairing household items, or helping family and friends solve a problem, he enjoyed keeping his hands busy and sharing his talents with others. He was known for his resourcefulness, dependability, and the joy he found in helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlee and Gladys Tubbs; his son, Jarrod Tubbs; his sister, Brenda Gray; his brothers, Don Tubbs, Michael Tubbs, Vincent Tubbs, and Victor Tubbs; his nephews, Jamon Marsh and Milecester Tubbs; and two great nephews.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Debrian Kim Johnson; his daughter in law, Andrea Tubbs (Jarrod) his grandchildren, Jamiah Tubbs, Jaedon Tubbs, Jeremiah Tubbs, Janiyah Tubbs, and Sarai Tubbs; his sisters, Pearlene Nelson (Freddie), Johnnie Marsh (Joseph), Cynthia Johnson, Volla Tubbs, and Detra Tubbs; his brother, Anthony Tubbs; Aunt Helyn Bryant, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends; special friends Johnny Walton, Curtis Jackson, Larry Johnson, and Charlie Headnot.

Calvin's life was marked by hard work, generosity, and a deep love for his family. His presence, wisdom, humor, dancing and willingness to help others will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We also want to gratefully acknowledge his niece, Shatavia Hardnett, and Bliss Hospice and Palliative Care, LLC for their loving care, compassion, and support during Calvin's final days.
